Hirudíneos or leeches are annelid or ringed worms that lack silks or parapods, with the body formed by 33 segments or rings, but internally they do not present dividing walls.

There are about 300 species among which there are some marine and terrestrial.
Most are small and harmless.

They generally live in fresh waters.

They can be external parasites of mollusks or vertebrates.

The most notable feature is the presence of an oral suction cup and a posterior and anal one.
In the front part is the mouth armed with teeth that it uses to cut the skin of the victims, with whose blood they feed, sucked with a powerful pharynx and the suction cup.
Between the teeth they have glands that secrete hirudin, which prevents blood clotting.
The digestive tract has numerous cecum where they store blood for a long time.
