General characters

The Myriapods are a class of arthropods mandibulated, terrestrial, tracheal respiration, with the body divided into a large number of segments, where the head is distinguished, but without a precise differentiation between the thorax and the abdomen.

Myriapods

The trunk has numerous segments, each of which bears a pair or two of tube-like appendages, minus the last.

The head has two antennae, the eyes that are simple, and the buccal appendages, made up of a pair of mandibles, with a chewing function, and one or two pairs of maxillae, provided with maxillary palps, with a sensory function.

All are covered with a strong chitinous shell, which in some also hardens the calcium salts.

They generally live in humid places, such as under rocks, litter, etc.

Myriapods have sexual reproduction and are divided into the following orders:

Myriapod millipedes.
Myriapod millipedes.
