They are mollusks that descend from the primitive species that populated the seas in ancient times.

They have a single slightly conical shell and segmented organs, which is why they are considered a link between mollusks and annelids.

They lack eyes and the ventral surface is occupied in its central part by the foot, almost circular, surrounded by five pairs of very primitive gills, with an excretory orifice in each one.

The digestive system has a mouth with a chewing system, esophagus, stomach and anus.

Neopilin

Neopilina is a true living fossil, unknown until 1953 when it was discovered among the dredged materials on the coast of Costa Rica, and resembles some fossils from the Cambrian period.
