Nature of Aragon > Fauna

Gastropods are mollusks with an asymmetrical body, almost always protected by a dorsal shell that has a characteristic spiral torsion that causes the visceral mass to roll over itself 180° to the right.

Gastropods have a mouth with a radula, which is a scraping organ with chitinous teeth that they use to scrape vegetables and even rocks.

It is the most numerous class of mollusks of which there are terrestrial, freshwater and marine forms, with more than 35,000 living species and 15,000 fossils.

The most typical representatives are snails and slugs.

All marine organisms have gills, and terrestrial and freshwater organisms have a true lung.

Gastropods have a very varied diet.

The heart has a ventricle and one or two atria.
The senses are almost always in the tentacles.
The foot is well developed and the skin is rich in glands that secrete mucus which, in land snails, facilitates their movement.
Both the head and the foot can be inserted into the shell in unfavorable conditions.

Gastropods are divided into lung and marine.
Lungs live on land or fresh water.

slugs are also gastropods that can be terrestrial or marine, and that have developed lungs or gills.
The latter are called opisthobranchs.

Sea slugs (Opisthobranchs)

They are marine gastropod mollusks. There are species with a shell and others without it. In some, the shell is completely covered by the mantle (sea hare). Others have the dorsal surface covered with respiratory tentacles of multiple and showy shapes and extremely colorful colors.

Sea snails (Prosobranchs)

Marine snails, commonly called "snails", are gastropods with a well-developed shell, often with a piece called the "operculum" that serves to close the shell.

There are more than 40,000 species of very varied shapes, colors and sizes.
The gills are contained in the pallial cavity, communicated with the outside by means of the "siphon".

They have a well-developed nervous system. They have eyes on their heads and tactile tentacles.

The mouth is at the end of a "trunk" and they have a radula for gnawing.

Some species have a poison pouch with darts that they shoot to capture their prey. There are carnivores, herbivores and also parasites.

Also Aragon enjoys a diverse and varied Nature where passing by plants, animals, Geology, or landscapes we can arrive at a fantastic bestiary that lives in its monuments.

The information will not be complete without a stroll by its three provinces, with shutdown in some of its spectacular landscapes like Ordesa, the Moncayo, Monegros or by opposition the Ebro.

Also you can dedicarte to the intangible ones: from the legend compilation that also does to universal Aragon.
