They are small mollusks with an elongated body, with a tubular mantle, on which the shell is molded in the shape of a fang, open at both ends.
They do not have gills, breathing through the surface of the mantle.
It is widespread throughout the seas, half-buried in the sand or silt, where they feed on microscopic organisms, which they capture with a series of tentacles that they have around their mouth.
The Dentalium is a scaphopod with whose shells primitive people decorated themselves.
