La mayoría poseen umbelas compuestas de umbelas más pequeñas.

Tienen las flores cinco pétalos de tamaños diferentes.

Entre las más conocidas están la zanahoria, el perifollo, el anís, la angélica, la cicuta, el perejil, la pimpinela, el hinojo, el apio, etc.

Apiáceas

Son plantas herbáceas difundidas en las zonas templadas. Antiguamente se usaban con fines medicinales y para dar sabor a los platos.

Se ha comprobado que el tallo de color verde es rico en vitaminas.

Los tallos blancos se usan en ensaladas.

Hay varias especies de apiáceas cultivadas en huertas de agradable olor aromático.
