Protófitas o Protófitos. Vegetables, plants. Vegetal kingdom. Flora.

Los Protófitos (o Protófitas) son entre los vegetales los más simples y de organización más sencilla y primitiva.

Son unicelulares, y alguno no poseen ni cloroplastos, sino pigmentos sintetizadores con clorofila en forma difusa.

Sus características les sitúan en el límite entre los reinos Vegetal y Animal, de manera que algunos autores los consideran como pertenecientes al Reino Mónera, pero hay que considerar que realizan procesos de fotosíntesis.

Esquizófitos.

Los más sencillos y de organización más simple que no poseen ni siquiera un nucleo definido, ni cloroplastos, reciben el nombre de Esquizófitos.

Los Esquizófitos comprenden las Bacterias o Esquizomicetes y las Algas verde-azuladas o Cianofitas o Mixomicetes.

Otros grupos de organización progresivamente más compleja (con nucleo, etc), son los siguientes:
