Nature of Aragon > Flora

Composite

It is a large family with more than 2,500 species, including many of the so-called weeds, as well as other cultivated ones. Among the best known are daisies, sunflowers, lettuce, thistles, etc.

They are characterized by having very small flowers, grouped in very compact heads.

Daisy Flower

The little flowers are tube-shaped (florets) that may have protruding ribbons like petals (ligules) and that give them the appearance of a single flower.

They have bracts underneath, like sepals, and the achene fruits usually have a tuft of hairs (pappus).
