It should be assumed, therefore, that man would show respect for her in fair reciprocity, seeking to preserve her natural reserves and striving to safeguard her purity. But the truth is that many countries have behaved negligently and without a vision for the future, to the point that the future of the human species and many others may be compromised if there is no noticeable improvement in the management of resources. waters of the Earth.
In Spain, industrialization and its consequences on ways of life, the strong growth of irrigation and the modern welfare society have produced a hydraulic management model that creates strong social and environmental effects. The need for minimal development led to management of the water resource as an exclusively productivist good, causing most of the river sections to be destroyed in just 40 years, either due to chemical contamination, the reduction of flows or the drastic alteration of their natural regime. A water management model is necessary that separates the wheat from the chaff in our irrigation experience, leaving myths aside and advocating efficient, modern and reasonable ideas in the agricultural use of water.
