General characters

Tentaculates are mostly marine organisms that have a crown of tentacles around the mouth, which constitutes the lophophore, which is why they are also called lofoforates.
The tentacles have vibrating cilia with which they produce a movement that attracts food to the mouth.

The digestive tube is U-shaped and the anus opens near the mouth.

They are classified in:

• Bryozoans.
• Foronideos.
• Endoproctos.
• Brachiopods.

Bryozoans

They are abundant animals on the coastline and shallow seas, living in arborescent colonies, sometimes in the form of sheets, others like algae, made up of thousands of horny or calcareous baskets where the animals live. They have no circulatory system and breathe through tentacles.

Foronideos

They are a small group of marine organisms with the body of a worm and a crown of tentacles around the mouth. Its body is protected with a chitinous tube that attaches itself to rocks or mollusk shells or buried in sand.

Brachiopods

They are marine animals protected by a shell with two valves, with pores located dorsally and ventrally, which are opened and closed by muscles, similar to bivalve mollusks. They are fixed to the seabed by means of a peduncle. They have the loptophore or tentacles on two arms coiled in a spiral. The U-shaped digestive tube has digestive glands. They have generally separate sexes, although they can be hermaphroditic.

Endoproctos

Aquatic organisms, similar to polyps, that live fixed in colonies or solitary, with a fixation peduncle. They can live on other animals (ascidians, sponges) and feed on diatoms and other microscopic organisms.
