Nature of Aragon in English > Ordesa
The National Park of Ordesa and Monte Perdido, is one of the nine Spanish National Parks.
The Ordesa Valley National Park was declared by R.D. of August 16, 1918.
Subsequently, it was reclassified under Law 52/1982 of July 13 to be renamed Ordesa y Monte Perdido National Park and expanding its area from 2,100 to 15,608 hectares by incorporating the areas of the Añisclo Canyon, the Escuain Gorges and Macizo del Perdido.
La zona de influencia comprende los términos municipales de Torla, Broto, Fanlo, Tella-Sin y Bielsa.
It supposes a geographical unit of first order. The Monte Perdido massif (3,355 m.) Dominates its orography, being the highest calcareous massif in Europe, with Tres Sorores (Monte Perdido, Cilindro and Soum de Rammond) from which the valleys of Ordesa, Añisclo, Escuain and Pineta derive as arms. excavated respectively by the rivers Arazas, Bellos, Yaga and Cinca.
The complicated geological and morphological history and the rigorous climate have resulted in its high altitude and steep slopes.
This area is a traditional settlement of people who have fought daily against the rigors of nature, using such a rational and respectful way the natural environment, which have made possible its conservation until today, so it has deserved the highest legislative degree of protection. This is, National Park.
