Intention of the Aragonese Bestiary project. Aragon

A concern was thus detected among some members of the Aragonese community about:

1. the low valuation of its historical and cultural heritage,
2. the difficulty about your access,
3. the scarcity of its diffusion

That make our cultural heritage undervalued and therefore endanger its existence.

To provide a solution to these problems, the Aragon Interactive and Multimedia Cultural Association (AIM) was formed, which, formed as a non-profit organization, by a group of stakeholders, is constituted as a working group for the use of modern information technologies and of the currently existing communications, in the dissemination and therefore safeguarding of our historical, artistic and cultural heritage. This working group is open to the collaboration of as many people or institutions as they want to collaborate in achieving their objectives.
 The association or group that is formed has the following characteristics:

The following main objectives are deduced from the above:

• Location of the original sources, of the Bestiary Sculptured in Aragon, both the images and the descriptions.
• The registration of these original sources in the possible existing formats: Bibliography, Photography, Video, Text Processing, Computer Registry, etc.
• The transition of these sources in conventional formats to an adequate computer registry, for better handling, treatment and dissemination.
• The construction of an Integrated Image Database and its descriptions on a suitable computer support for its conservation, consultation and dissemination.
• The use of the previous Database for direct consultation, as well as a basis for obtaining other products that allow a greater diffusion: Internet, Interactive Databases, DVD, Publications, Catalogs, Exchanges, etc.

Other objectives of this association are learning or experimentation in the construction and dissemination of Hypermedia Databases, which allow a subsequent application to more ambitious projects.

Due to the resources and possibilities of the constituted work group and its possible extensions, it is necessary to set realistic limits to the work, so that it can be carried out effectively.

As a subject to be registered, the Sculpted Bestiary has been limited primarily, but no material that can be obtained will be discarded.

As a geographical area it has been limited to the Community of Aragon, but all materials that are useful for their complementarity will be used.

As a temporary scope, the nineteenth and twentieth centuries that are excluded have been imposed as a limit, as they are more numerous and outside the original spirit.

Initial work plan

• Location of the existing bibliography on the subject.
• Location of Sites, Buildings, Museums, Archives and / or Municipalities of preferred interest.
• Location of Plans, Routes, Schedules and other information referring to point 2.
• Location of Books, Photos, Files, Video, Movies, etc. referring to images of animal sculptures and their conversion to digital format.
• Location and access to material resources (Hardware, Software, documentation, premises, etc.), necessary.
• Construction of a first Prototype Database for the collection of images and the tests and development of its structure, as well as a first determination of the technical characteristics that it must possess.
• - Search for other potential stakeholders, and offer collaboration.
