Beato de Liebana

Commentary on the Apocalypse of St. John written by Beatus of Liebana, Asturian monk preceptor Osinda Queen, daughter of Alfonso I, about the year 786.

The various manuscripts that convey the "Commentary on the Apocalypse" is illustrated in various monasteries during the tenth, eleventh and twelfth centuries; Luxury copies are copied and decorated for kings and magnates.

Beatus of Liebana also wrote a liturgical hymn Maragato King's successor and brother Silo of Osinda, which invokes the Apostle James as head of Spain, thus beginning belief that the apostle evangelized the peninsula, and giving rise to pilgrimages to Compostela and, therefore, the "Camino de Santiago".
