Con la llegada de la primavera comienza la época de celo en buena parte de las especies de aves presentes en el Refugio y pueden escucharse ya sus cantos. El aguilucho pálido se deja ver en sus elegantes y minuciosos vuelos de caza a baja altura. Gangas y Ortegas forman bandos fácilmente observables, sobre todo en torno a los puntos de agua. También es posible divisar algunas grullas que emigran hacia el norte de Europa.
