El refugio de fauna silvestre permite la observación, con interés y paciencia, de numerosas especies de aves, algunas invernantes, que sólo pueden encontrarse en la zona en esta época del año, y otras, esteparias, que tienen la lomaza de Belchite como su hábitat. Entre las primeras, un observador cuidadoso puede ver la alondra común ("Alauda arvensis"), bisbita común ("Anthus pratensis"), lavandera común ("Motacilla alba"), lavandera boyera ("Motacilla flava"), escribano montesino ("Emberiza cia") o aguilucho pálido ("Cyrcus cyaneus").
A pesar de que el viento reinante estos días dificulta su localización, entre las especies esteparias que podemos avistar en la Lomaza se encuentran la alondra de Dupont ("Chersophilus dupontii"), terrera marismeña ("Calandrella ruferscena"), curruca rabilarga ("Sylvia undata"), cogujada común ("Galerida cristata"), cogujada montesina ("Galerida teklae") o perdiz roja ("Alectoris rufa")
