Macho cabrío y la Cabra Aragones Bestiary.

Respecto a estos animales se afirma en los bestiarios: "El macho cabrío es un animal lascivo, imagen del demonio y de la impureza, y en la antigüedad servía de montura a Afrodita y Dionisos", de donde tal vez derive el que en la Edad Media se representa la lujuria por una mujer cabalgando sobre un macho cabrío o una cabra.

Entre múltiples representaciones, existe una en un capitel de la Catedral de Auxerre, y en Esteban, op cit, pág 409 una miniatura depositada en la Biblioteca Nacional de París y en un grabado del Chateau de Labour en el que aparece luchando contra la castidad.

Una de sus variantes serían los Sátiros que se representaban con cuernos y palas de macho cabrío, para los cristianos eran imagen del Diablo y del AntiCristo.

En los Bestiarios moralizados, encarnan la lujuria.

El simbolismo de ambos animales es negativo. Como ejemplo, las palabras de San Mateo refiriéndose al Juicio Final (25, 31): "como el pastor separa las ovejas de los cabritos, y pondrá las ovejas a su derecha y los cabritos a la izquierda. Al mismo tiempo dirá a los que estén a su izquierda: Apartaos de mi, malditos, al fuego eterno".
