La primera semana de marzo ha paralizado la primavera que comenzaba a llegar y ha vuelto a dibujar un paisaje invernal, cubierto de nieve, con espesores de diez a cuarenta centímetros y temperaturas bajo cero, dejando transitable solamente la carretera nacional. Toda la vegetación se cubrió de nieve y la flor se heló. Apenas queda algún fruto de escaramujo y bayas de sabina.
Los buitres han regresado a cotas bajas del valle, el quebrantahuesos en el nido, y también lo preparan ratoneros y milanos, y el cárabo ya ha hecho su puesta. Se ha producido una gran concentración de grullas en el valle debido a las dificultades para cruzar la frontera de las montañas pirenaicas, dificultades que también ha encontrado el palomo en su vuelo migratorio. La escasez de alimento en los puertos es total: los rebecos han bajado a los bosques después de haber visitado las primeras majadas con suelos que habían empezado a brotar.
