The Piedra river and its affluents, Mesa and the Ortiz, form a natural unit that extends between Castile Mancha and Aragón, by old señorío of Molina and the Community of Calatayud. The points more known the course of the river are the bath of Jaraba and the Stone Monastery.
The enclosure of the Monastery locks up a park where the river in three arms is divided, with great number of cascades, emphasizing the beautiful and spectacular jump of the "Tail of the Horse", with a height of 90 meters, and which it has given rise to an impressive grotto. In the low part of the park fluvial terraces exist, flowing and small lakes. Piscifactoria is in addition one. The hermitage of Our Lady of the White, in the high zone of the Monastery, is a magnificent observing point of the park, although it must be acceded with much precaution.
All the course of the Stone is rich in subaqueous flora and the margins are provided with vegetation. The rivers Ortiz and Mesa úne to the Stone in the glass of the marsh of the Tranquera, whose slopes are a green forest mass of repoblado pine. Good part of the natural vegetation of the zone, like some olmeras and choperas, is disappear, although important the surrounding mounts still conserve holm-oak forest formation. The ample deserts covered with romero, thyme and aliaga, the cereal fields, almonds tree and grapevines, complete the landscape.
The Piedra river is very truchero, although also we found numerous cangregos and barbels. In Defiles of Calmarza it inhabits one of the greater concentrations of vultures leonados of the Iberian Peninsula and also there are otters, unequivocal symptom of the purity of waters of the rivers Stone, Mesa and Ortiz.
