El Guadalope atraviesa todo un sector del Maestrazgo y poco antes de entrar en el Bajo Aragón recibe su principal afluente, el Bergantes, procedente de tierras de Morella. Es un paisaje muy humanizado y en esta época se contempla la imagen mezclada de los sembrados que despuntan junto a las oliveras que paisanos de aquí y allá descargan de su negro fruto.
Los sotos de ribera parecen detenidos en el tiempo a la espera de una vida vegetal que ya pronto rebrotará. Pueblos como Aguaviva o Mas de las Matas llenan el fondo de la depresión con un notable caserío coronado por tenues columnas de humo en las chimeneas.
