Description

Aragon is one of the few European areas that maintain an extensive steppe territory.  The result of age-old deforestation and livestock exploitation, the wastelands, wastelands or moorlands are currently fragile ecosystems. Habitat of a peculiar flora and fauna, these spaces have suffered the abandonment of traditional agricultural and livestock practices. Changes in land uses caused by the regression of the world have affected the conservation status of these enclaves.

The Belchite steppe is a sample of these unique ecosystems. It protects two areas: El Planeron - first European reserve of steppe birds created from the purchase of parcels by popular subscription, the support of the City Council of Belchite and the European Union-, and the recently reclassified WILD FAUNA SHELTER OF THE LOMAZA DE BELCHITE.
